R. Reid Badger

R. Reid Badger is professor emeritus of American Studies at the University of Alabama where he taught from 1974 until 1998. He also taught at New York University and in the educational program of Jazz at Lincoln Center. Dr. Badger is the author of two books in American cultural history (and editor of a third) and numerous articles and book chapters. He has also served as writer/contributor for several radio and television productions including the documentary films “Hellfighters: Harlem’s Heroes of WWI,” “Ralph Ellison: A Writer’s Journey” and “Dvorak and America.” His biography of jazz pioneer James Reese Europe (A Life in Ragtime) received the Deems Taylor Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) and the ARSC Award for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research.
