David Benson Bradford was born and raised in Jackson County, Alabama. He attended Auburn University, where he received BA and MA degrees in English, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where he received a PhD in communication and rhetoric. He taught composition, literature, and journalism at Auburn, Northeast Alabama Community College, and RPI before joining IBM as a technical writer in 1983. He retired from IBM in 2014, having managed organizations specializing in publications and user experience in Kingston, New York; Vienna Austria; and Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. He is retired and living in Scottsboro, Alabama. Lucille Benson is David’s great-aunt.
