Interest Magazines." This competition, judged
at Dartmouth College, considered more than 40 magazines from colleges and universities
across the country including the medical schools at Harvard and Yale.

Awards, “Other Magazines.” Selected
for this award from a total of twenty-six other entries, Alabama
Heritage was regarded as “a superb publication
and an excellent reflection on the state of Alabama.” Magazines
were judged on content, writing, editing, design,
photography, and printing.

Advancement Awards, “Other
Magazines.” The Communications Office at the
University of Georgia judged the competition among 24 entries.

Selected for this award from a total of eighteen other
entries, Alabama Heritage was heralded as a "beautiful
magazine! The photographs are outstanding and the
content is excellent."

This competition, judged by the development
office of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, offered comments
from the judges: "Great look. It could probably beat 'Smithsonian'
in a competition." "I like the writing. It is warm and informative.
The editor is doing a good job." "This is an excellent example
of cooperation between two major universities."
2000
- Certificate of Commendation from the American Association
for State and Local History, a prestigious national organization
whose award program extends throughout North America. Only three
AASLH awards have been given to Alabama projects in the last
eleven years.

considered more than 50 magazines from across the country.

- Finalist, Southern Environmental Law Center Award for Outstanding
Writing on the Southern Environment.
Todd Keith's article, "Alabama's Heart River: The Cahaba,"
(Alabama Heritage, Fall 1998) was a top-contender in this regional
competition recognizing the South's best writing about the environment.
